Questions to ask during college visits

I am going on 2 college visits this week, and honestly, I have no clue what to ask. I don’t want to look like an idiot, but I’m one of those people that never think of questions until after they’re done. What are some good questions to ask about the colleges? If you’ve been in college recently, what did you ask/what are some things your college offers that helped you make your decision?

I’m sure you’ll think of plenty of questions during the visits – just ask them as you think of them.

But, if you still want some ideas, here’s some to start you off:
- What is required on the application? What is/are the most important factor(s) for admission?
- What kind of classes should I be taking now to prepare for X major? (This question should be directed toward a professor or student of that major or a major similar to it.)
- Average class size? Average class size for X major?
- Do all, or at least the majority, of the professors have degrees in their fields?
- What is the social life like here? (Ask current students this one.)
- What kind of organizations are present here [community service groups, Greek, major-related clubs, etc...anything you're interested in.]?
- Are internships and/or studying abroad opportunities available?
- What kind of facilities do you have for sports, marching band, theatre, etc. (anything you’re interested in)?
- If going into the dorms aren’t part of your visit, ask current students what the dorms are like: Size? What do you do if you have a problem with a roommate? Can you request to room with a particular person, and if so, would you recommend this? Are there any requirements about students living on campus [For instance, at a college I visited, only seniors could live off-campus. At another college, freshman must live on campus and must share dorms - single dorms are only available to soph. & up.]? What is/isn’t allowed in the dorms [appliances, etc.]?
- What kind of financial aid is offered?

    You can ask about average class size or what kind of organizations are on campus.

    There are a lot of things that you could ask, but chances are, if you go on a tour, you’re going to get any information you need. Tour guides are trained to have any answers you might need.

    Ask what ever you think is important.

    Trust me.. it’ll come to you. Take a tour of each campus.. the guides are usually very informative.

    Decisions/Offers that helped students make their decision to go to a particular college is: financial aid package, the size of the college/classes, the environment around the campus, the diversity .. etc.

    About asking questions – it will come to you when you go on the college tour. Sometimes you do not even have to ask if the tour guide give good information.

    Is this a college where you would be staying in the dorms?
    If so ask about
    Transportation
    Meal Plans
    Recreational Activities

    Other Questions
    Class size and are they mostly taught by T.A’s or professors
    Wireless internet, is it available everywhere on campus or in hot spots
    Places to take a nap, sounds weird but sometimes in between classes you need one)
    Good place to study

    Don’t be embarrassed to ask any ? because the person giving the tour is a student there and they know the answer and I’m sure they have heard it before
