What can I ask an admissions officer? And how can I make the most of a college visit?

So I’m visiting a series of colleges really far from home so I want to make the most of the visits. Do you know any questions I can ask an admission’s officer there that would help me out with the admission’s process and give me some helpful information? Also, how could I make the most of the visit other than getting a tour of the college?

I’d be willing to bet there’s a book with a title something like, "How to Get the Most Out of Your College Visits". Amazon.com would be a good place to start to find out.

To get the best feel for what a school is like, you want to visit when classes are in session. Sit in on a class or two [admissions office should have info about this], go to the student center and hang out for a while [strike up some conversations with current students], read the different bulletin boards and the student newspaper to get an idea of what’s going on, talk with some profs in the department you may be interested in majoring in, etc.
